Links between research and practice also underpin my work as an artist and an educator, allowing each element to enhance the other. My art practice focuses on the subjects of emotion, memory, and the location itself through photography and the use of archives, specifically in the area of derelict spaces and their histories. I understand art practice to involve the interpretation of the world and the identification of stories hidden from view.
As an educator, the research supports my beliefs about the process of learning by curiosity, questioning, and experimentation. As an educator, I appreciate the freedom of not having the answers and being open to discovery, which is an important part of the creative and educational process.
Since now, my research has involved writing on issues of inclusive education and technology. Artists, historians, genealogists, archaeologists, community members, and educators provide knowledge that underlines my work involving archives, photographs, and abandoned space. Through this experience, I see my process as an unfolding archive one that relates place, memory, and shared cultural experience.
